Curly Wool, Curls and Waves
Our curly wool, curls and waves come from breeds of sheep that naturally grow long locks. We have teeswater and wensleydale, as well as white faced dartmoor, grey faced dartmoor and valais blacknose.
Carded wool
Carded wool is created by our local mill. Carding is a mechanical process where the fibres are detangled and roughly aligned. Carded wool is made into rovings or slivers, and can also be used to create batts
Rovings
Rovings are a long 'length' of fibres, so when it comes off the carding machines, it is processed into a long strip of fibres, with the fibres roughly aligned
Tops
Tops go through a further mechancial process, where the carded wool rovings are combed so all the fibres align in the same direction
Batts
Batts are made from carded wool that has been made into sheets. Unforunately we do not currently stock wool batts as our local mill can not produce them.
